GTX Corp. sues Xerox, 5 others over patent
A small Scottsdale company has sued copier giant Xerox Corp. and five other companies, alleging they are infringing on its patent for enhancing the images of scanned documents.GTX Corp. filed the lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Tyler, Texas, asking for damages and to have the companies stop infringing on its patent. The company alleges that it met for years with Xerox and its Japanese affiliate, Fuji-Xerox Co. Ltd., over potential licensing agreements, and that the companies knowingly began using GTX’s technology in their DocuWork software without its permission.Xerox, based in Stamford, Conn., had not been served with the lawsuit and could not comment, spokeswoman Christa Carone said Friday.GTX also sued Eastman Kodak Co. of Rochester, N.Y.; Kofax Imaging Products Inc. of Irvine, Calif.; Pegasus Imaging Corp. of Tampa; Nuance Communications Inc. of Burlington, Mass.; and Lead Technologies Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., claiming infringements.GTX, which was founded in 1984 by Marvin Ling and has 12 employees, develops software for computer-assisted design users. The company applied for a patent on image-enhancing technology in 2000 and received it March 21.
