    Lexmark targets office superstores
Lexmark International’s chief financial officer said today he expects the company’s inkjet printers to soon be sold at office superstores, where they were previously absent. The comment came during a speech by John Gamble Jr. at Citigroup’s 13th annual Global Technology Conference in New York City.”I think you’ll see Lexmark in a couple of additional office superstores as you look through the summer,” Gamble said in response to a question by Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner.Office superstores reach small and medium business customers, who the company has been targeting with its newest all-in-one printers. All-in-ones can print, copy, scan and sometimes fax.Historically, Lexmark has had “varied degrees of success with shelf space at office superstores or electronic retailers,” said Tom Carpenter, a vice president and senior equity analyst at Hilliard Lyons.”They’ve had their most success at places like Wal-Mart and Meijer, the mass market stores, so this could help with their brand image as well with consumers,” he said.Office superstores tend to be dominated by industry leader Hewlett-Packard, he said.”The fact that the office superstores are working with them more than they have in the past is a positive reflection on the new products they’ve introduced,” Carpenter said.
