Band’s latest fundraiser: Empty ink cartridges
Businesses in the Fort Myers area soon will start seeing young musicians showing up at their storefronts, asking if their printers have run dry.Members of Fort Myers High’s marching band are collecting empty ink and toner cartridges as a fundraiser for their London trip. Bonita Springs-based Rapid Refill Ink recycles the cartridges, and will pay students anywhere from 50 cents to $10 for each cartridge, according to Todd Seman, partner and sales director.Students already collected about 150 cartridges, and combined with a donation from Rapid Refill, earned $250.All proceeds will help finance the marching band’s winter trip to London, where it will participate in the city’s New Year’s Day parade. The band still needs to collect between $80,000 to $100,000 before making its final payment to parade organizers in early November.Band parents have created a target list of businesses to solicit, but any other businesses, organizations or individuals can participate in the recycling program by calling Rapid Refill at 992-4626
