Staples Inc. CEO gets nearly $10 million in 2006 compensation
BOSTON Staples Chairman and C-E-O Ronald Sargent received compensation valued at nearly ten (m) million dollars in 2006.
It was a year in which the Framingham-based office products supplier moved into new North American markets and began to turn around lagging results in Europe.Sargent was paid just over one (m) million dollars in salary, up more than three percent from the year before. The bulk of Sargent’s 2006 compensation package came from stock and option awards under an incentive plan based on Staples’ performance.Sargent has been chief executive since February 2002 and board chairman since March 2005 at Staples, which operates about 19-hundred stores and employs 74-thousand employees.
