Wilhelm rates Epson Durabrite ink longevity
Epson claims that its DuraBrite inks are durable and fade resistent for up to 100 years, and Wilhelm Research, an independent test facility, has conducted accellerated fade tests to see if Epson’s claims are accurate. The bottom line? Under the right storage conditions, prints made on the right Epson paper with DuraBrite inks will indeed resist fading for well over 100 years, according to Wilhelm’s results.

The full report can be found in an 8-page PDF file, called Epson DuraBrite Pigment Inks and Epson Photo Paper vs. Store-Brand and Other Non-Genuine, Third-Party Inks and Photo Papers – WIR Print Permanence Ratings(look it up on google)When printed on Epson’s Premium Presentation Matte or Matte Paper Heavyweight, prints will last over 100 years when displayed under glass, and over 185 years when displayed under UV filtered glass–as well as in dark storage.Tests also showed that when DuraBrite inks were printed on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, they lasted 40 years under regular glass and 61 years under UV filtered glass. But when in an album or dark storage, tests revealed they would remain unchanged for at least 300 years.By comparison, store-brand inks lasted less than a year before starting to fade, according to test results.
