Meijer Teams with Midwest Remanufacturer for Ink Cartridge Refill Service
COMMERCE, Mich., MARCH, 2008 — IQcartridge, a Midwest remanufacturer of ink and printer cartridges, has teamed with hundreds of Meijer stores to offer a convenient and cost-effective way for consumers to recycle and refill their ink and printer cartridges, helping them save money and contribute to the green momentum in earth conservation. Meijer has installed ink cartridge refill stations in their photo and electronics departments for consumers to drop off cartridges in envelopes and pick up the next day.”We want to remanufacture as many cartridges as we possibly can,” says Kristen Kavanagh, President of IQcartridge. “The best way to do that is to make it convenient for consumers to return their cartridges and offer them quick turn-around. As Meijer saw a decline in photo processing due to the advent of digital cameras, we realized an opportunity to provide a similar drop-off and pick-up service for ink cartridges.”

Approximately 1 billion printer cartridges are manufactured every year, most designed as single-use disposable products. The average US household has 1.2 computers. Home office and educational use and at-home photo printing have tripled home printer usage in the past 2 years.Recycling of ink cartridges not only reduces the burden of landfills, but also realizes significant cost savings to the consumer with the benefit of extra ink capacity in each cartridge.”Consumers can see a savings of up to 50% with a recycled ink cartridge,” says Kavanagh. “Plus, we can remove the false walls and hidden chambers that many manufacturers currently build into ink and printer cartridges which can give consumers a higher cartridge yield up to 300% more.”IQcartridge, a 2-year old company, operates two processing facilities with plans for at least three more and employs a staff of technicians who use equipment and technology developed by the company to process thousands of cartridges each week. IQcartridge is the exclusive service provider for over 200 Meijer stores, independent grocers, college bookstores and computer centers.
