Printers and copiers are security risk – EU warns users
The EU is worried that printers and copiers are the weakest link in IT networks.
The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) has issued a statement warning companies to look closely at printers and copiers when designing their corporate cyber defences. Many companies are unaware of the dangers posed by printers that are connected to the Internet, ENISA has warned.  Printers are effective ways to penetrate networks or a window to stored documents.Companies have to be careful to take precautions with printers and copiers to prevent unauthorised access to documents or data cartridges. The good old days of printing and copying, dating back 450 years to Gutenberg, whereby documents could be secured with a lock and key were over, the agency said.ENISA surveyed 350 companies in France, Germany and Britain before reaching its startling conclusion.
