    Oct.
09- Hewlett-Packard Co.’s complaint seeking to bar imports of certain
printer cartridges that it claims use protected technology won review
    by U.S. trade officials.

maker of personal computers and printers.“By instituting this
investigation, the USITC has not yet made any decision on the merits of
the case,” the agency said in a statement. The agency, set up to
protect U.S. markets from unfair trade practices, has the power to ban
    imports that violate patents.

    Hewlett-Packard’s patent rights

Hewlett-Packard said in its complaint. The company has filed
patent-infringement lawsuits against competitors including China-based
Ninestar Technology Co., South Korea’s InkTec Co. and Taipei-based Acer
    Inc.

The closely held companies that will
be reviewed by the ITC include China-based Zhuhai Gree Magneto-Electric
Co., Shanghai Angel Printer Supplies Co., Shenzhen Print Media Co.,
Zhuhai National Resources & Jingjie Imaging Products Co., Tatrix
International and Ourway Image Co.; Hong Kong-based Mipo International
Ltd.; Miami-based Mextec Group Inc.; and three companies in California,
InkPlusToner.com in Canoga Park, SmartOne Services LLC in Hayward and
Comptree Ink in the City of Industry.

The U.S.-based companies didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
