KANSAS CITY, MO  — Brad Roderick, executive vice president of InkCycle, a Kansas City company with a recycled line of ink and toner cartridges known as grenk, released a family video regarding how to green up the home.Roderick said that the video highlights how e-waste is a growing problem and families need to be conscious about how they dispose of electronics. “According to Allen Hershkowitz, a senior scientist and authority on waste management at the National Resources Defense Council, in 2005 alone, almost 2 million tons of e-waste were landfilled. While toxic materials comprise only a small amount of this volume, it doesn’t take much lead or mercury to contaminate an area’s soil or water supply. Families need to keep this in mind when deciding what to do with those old electronic devices,” said Roderick.Roderick added that using recycled ink cartridges are a good start to greening up a home. “Some easy steps to making a home greener include: recycling computers, televisions, appliances, cell phones and buying and recycling ink cartridges,” said Roderick.
