Oki Hits Half Million Mark With Printer Sales

OKI Printing Solutions Ships over 500,000 Digital LED Color Printers Worldwide. Markt share is at 12.3%.

TOKYO, June , 2005 – OKI Printing Solutions (the brand name of Oki Data Corporation/Oki Data Americas) today announced it has shipped a total of 500,000 digital LED color printers worldwide since 1998; of which 200,000 were shipped in the past 12 months. According to IDC’s announcement, OKI Printing Solutions held 12.3% market share, ranking it number 2 in Western Europe for its color page printer shipment for the first quarter of 2005 (January-March period).

“The fact we have shipped 500,000 digital LED color printers to date, clearly demonstrates that we are fast becoming the preferred printing solutions partner of businesses. We believe this is a result of our focus and passion to develop innovative printing solutions that meet the specific needs of organisations, whatever their size,” says Mikihiko Maeno, President and CEO of Oki Data Corp.

“Our target this year is to ship 300,000 digital LED color printers worldwide — a 50% increase on last year’s shipment of 200,000,” adds Mikihiko Maeno.

    Committed to LED Technology
Ever since OKI Printing Solutions developed its first color page printers, it has been committed to using digital LED technology that has advantages over laser technology due to its compact size, reliability, high resolution and high-speed printing. In May 2005, OKI Printing Solutions introduced a new A3 digital LED color printer and multifunction product with premium print quality achieved by the world’s first digital LED head using ProQ Multilevel technology. This innovative technology delivers the maximum of 32 levels of halftones per dot, producing a print quality with subtler tones and smother gradations to lend photographic quality to all printed and copied documents; a vast improvement from the conventional bi-level technology.

Mikihiko Maeno comments: “The new ProQ Mutlilevel technology clearly communicates our position as a company that not only challenges the printer market but also responds directly to the needs of businesses. Especially as the new print technology enables companies and their staff to communicate more efficiently and effectively by producing professional quality printed communications – something we believe is fundamental to business success.”
