    What Is Xerox's “Project Compete”?
Xerox Corp. is eliminating a number of back-office finance positions in Monroe County as part of its company-wide effort to move work to lower-cost parts of the globe.

The Connecticut-based printing and business process outsourcing company declined to say how many jobs locally would be affected, but that it was “a small number of positions.”

Xerox employs close to 6,300 locally.

Xerox is in the midst of what it has termed “Project Compete” — an effort to move more of its business services and finances work to low-cost domestic and international sites. Last month, Xerox officials said that the company as of then had moved roughly 4,000 jobs to lower-cost areas, with the expectation that it will do likewise to another 8,000 or more in 2014.
