Will Office Depot  Lay Off 1600 Employees at OfficeMax Headquarters?

OfficeMax, a subsidiary of Boca Raton-based Office Depot, warned the state of Illinois Monday that it would eventually close the OfficeMax headquarters in Naperville, Ill., which will ultimately affect 1,600 employees. The layoffs will begin during a 14-day period in April, the notice said.

In December, the nation's No. 2 office-supply retailer chose Boca Raton as its headquarters, with plans to integrate OfficeMax. The companies closed their $1.2 billion merger in early November.
