Hazmat Crews Called To Xerox N.Y. Plant as Magenta Toner Leaks
    By: YNN Staff
Webster, N.Y.- Xerox said its engineers along with the Monroe County Emergency Response Team and the State DEC responded to a creek Wednesday to investigate the cause of a magenta-colored discharge near its Webster complex.

Xerox said the substance was found running to a drain in a parking lot north of Schlegel Road, which empties into a drainage ditch or creek. The creek is used to water a nearby golf course.

A spokesperson for Xerox said they determined there is no toxicity in the water and no observable impact on aquatic life. The coloring appears to be a water soluble dye, but is not a match to any toner or pigment that Xerox uses in manufacturing.  They have not yet determined the cause of the color, or the source of the discharge.

Red-Colored Water Found Near Xerox Plant

Xerox engineers, Monroe County Emergency Response Team, and the State DEC says the red-colored discharge found in a drainage stream in Webster early Wednesday afternoon is not toxic.

The team evaluated the colored discharge and determined no toxicicity in the water and no observable impact on aquatic life.

Xerox says the coloring appears to be a water-soluble dye but that it is not a match to any toner or pigment Xerox uses in manufacturing.

Xerox has not determined the cause of the color or the source of the discharge but continue to investigate.
