HEIDELBERG Foresees £250m Growth Ahead of 175th Anniversary.
HEIDELBERG has unveiled a comprehensive mid-term growth strategy, highlighting its focus on the expanding industrial digital printing market. This announcement comes as the German printing solutions giant approaches its 175th anniversary in March 2025.

Originally founded as a bell foundry in Frankenthal, Germany, over 150 years ago, HEIDELBERG has evolved into a leading provider of print and packaging solutions. As it prepares to mark this milestone on March 11, 2025, the company is positioning itself to tackle future challenges and capitalize on growth opportunities.

HEIDELBERG expects its strategic initiatives to drive over €300 million (£250 million) in additional sales by the 2028/2029 financial year. A key component of this growth is the anticipated expansion of the industrial digital printing market, which HEIDELBERG projects will increase from approximately €5 billion (£4.2 billion) today to €7.5 billion (£6.3 billion) by 2029.

In recent years, HEIDELBERG has bolstered its digital printing portfolio, notably through its collaboration with Canon on the Jetfire 50 B3 inkjet printing system. The Jetfire 50 has garnered strong interest, with pre-orders already coming in.

The company also emphasizes the booming packaging market, which has grown more than 60% globally in the past decade. In response to the growing demand for sustainable solutions, HEIDELBERG has partnered with specialty chemicals producer Solenis to develop paper-based alternatives to plastic and foil packaging, with a particular focus on recyclable packaging for the food industry.

Packaging now accounts for over half of HEIDELBERG’s revenue, and the company aims to continue expanding this segment. Key regions like Asia and the United States are expected to be focal points for sales growth and further global expansion. Over 85% of HEIDELBERG’s business is already conducted outside of Germany, and the company operates in approximately 170 countries worldwide.

Jürgen Otto, CEO of HEIDELBERG, shared insights into the company’s strategy: “To enhance our market position, we are increasingly tapping into growth areas within packaging, digital printing, software, and lifecycle services. Additionally, we are focusing on expanding our presence in the growing green technologies sector, including high-precision mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, charging infrastructure, and emerging hydrogen technologies.”

In celebration of its 175th anniversary, HEIDELBERG will host a week of events in 2025, culminating in an anniversary ceremony at its new Home of Print headquarters. The company will invite customers, suppliers, and partners from around the world to join the festivities. An anniversary magazine will also be published, reflecting on HEIDELBERG’s rich history and its vision for the future.
