The Success of Europe’s While-You-Wait Inkjet Refilling Business

Over The past few years, inkjet printing has become one of the fastest growing industries in the world. This growth has been spurred by the increased penetration of PCs in homes and businesses as well as the availability of low-cost colour printers. More recently, the explosion in digital camera usage is also fuelling the growth in the output market for vendors of inkjet printers, media, and cartridges.

As a result, many inkjet media and cartridge solutions have been introduced to the market. These products are manufactured by the OEMs themselves as well as a plethora of third-party inkjet refill cartridge and media providers. Until recently, the third-party players had focused on offering DIY (do-it-yourself) refill solutions, compatible ink tanks, or modified inkjet cartridges offering click-in or station-type solutions. Over the past couple of years, however, a new trend has emerged in the United Kingdom. It is spreading across the rest of Europe and is emerging rapidly in the United States as well. This new trend is that of inkjet refilling shops, where users take their used cartridges into a shop to be refilled while they wait.
