Danka Closes One Call Center 
Danka Office Imaging Co. is closing its Irondequoit dispatch/call center by March 31. The closing of the center in the Kings Park complex affects about 85 of the 100 or so Danka employees who work in the Rochester area. Some workers at Kings Park have been offered an opportunity to work at a Danka dispatch/call center at its U.S. headquarters in St. Petersburg, Fla. Others have been offered a severance package. A technical group of about 20 people will move to Danka’s offices in Meridian Centre in Brighton.
The company could not provide a specific breakdown because some people are still “evaluating the move.”
The London-based company sells and services copiers and office equipment, including high-volume, black-and-white digital printers that are made in Gates by Heidelberg Digital.
Wayne Frahn, executive vice president for Danka’s U.S. services, said the company is “restructuring for efficiency.” Danka recently closed a dispatch/call center in Windsor, Colo. The company’s Rochester- area workers have been used to change.
Danka bought the sales, marketing and equipment service piece of Eastman Kodak Co.’s copier business in 1996 and a year later had about 1,400 workers in the area. Danka eliminated 450 of those jobs in 1999 before selling its Brighton-based copy outsourcing division – Danka Business Services – to Pitney Bowes Inc. in 2001.
The Kings Park location closing will leave another vacancy at the 309,000-square-foot office site at 100 S. Kings Highway. Danka leases about 30,000 square feet there. Paychex Inc. and the Sutherland Group also have moved workers to other locations.
Still, CB Richard Ellis, the site’s commercial real estate broker, is optimistic. “For anybody that needs a block of efficient economically attractive space with parking that’s easy to get to, this is a dynamite facility,” said Michael Frame, managing broker for the company’s Rochester office, which works on behalf of the park’s owner, REIT Management & Research. “The facility will do fine over time.”
