HP JOINS NEW
COUNTERFEIT ALLIANCE
HP has joined forces with
global leadership group, Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and
Piracy (BASCAP).HP, in support of BASCAP, has outlined plans to mobilise
businesses across sectors, and says it will invest in resources and
expertise to curb counterfeiting.
Jeff Hardy, BASCAP coordinator of
the International Chamber of Commerce, says: “The International Chamber
of Commerce is extremely pleased to have HP join the BASCAP initiative,
especially as counterfeit consumer electronics continue to be a
significant international problem.”Hardy adds that the partnership with
HP is expected to generate greater awareness around the threat that
counterfeiting causes. He notes that the alliance will amplify BASCAP’s
message with policy makers and consumers.
Global challenge
Stephen
Nigro, senior vice-president of HP Imaging and Printing Group’s inkjet
and Web solutions business, says HP has been investing in
anti-counterfeiting practices for nearly a decade.“The manufacturing and
illicit sale of counterfeit products is a global problem that spans
across many industries and shows no signs of slowing down, especially
during tough economic times,” notes Nigro“We are eager to exchange
ideas, key learnings and best practices with other BASCAP members in an
effort to strengthen global anti-counterfeiting efforts.”
Formed
by the International Chamber of Commerce, BASCAP unites the global
business community to identify and address intellectual property rights
issues and petition for greater commitments by local, national and
international officials in the enforcement and protection of these
rights. The Global Leadership Group was created in 2005 as a forum for
BASCAP member CEOs and other top executives to exchange views and
priorities. BASCAP also provides a platform for the organisation to
speak directly with government ministers and international media.
