Instead of being the dog, the PC was the hero for Hewlett-Packard’s first quarter.
The company posted earnings of $936 million on revenues of $19.5 billion (U.S.) for the quarter, a nine per cent jump over its revenues for the year-ago quarter.
Imaging and printing saw sales of $5.9 billion and profits of $968 million, both figures up for the quarter. Fiorina credited the growth with an increasing interest in the company’s new line of multi-function devices as it looks to tap into the digital copier market. The company shipped 14.4 million new hardware units during the quarter, an increase of 12 per cent year- over-year, and Fiorina noted that it passed the 300- million printer plateau during the quarter. Its new line of consumer digital cameras were also successful.
