Canon Japan: New ‘imagePROGRAF’ Large-format Inkjet Printer Uses Pigment-based Inks for All Six Colors
Tokyo – Canon Today Announced the introduction to the Japanese market of the company’s first large- format inkjet color graphics printer under the new imagePROGRAF brand: the Canon imagePROGRAF W6200, offering high-speed, high-resolution output at a reasonable price.

The Canon imagePROGRAF W6200 large-format printer realizes exceeding space efficiency with a new compact and lightweight design that enables desktop placement. Compatible with media sizes up to A1+ size (24 inches wide), the new printer produces high- impact borderless prints in a wide range of formats, including common poster sizes B2 and B3, and photo- industry standard sizes 10 x 11 inches and 8 x 10 inches.

Canon’s new printer also employs the company’s pigment-based Pg Ink for all six colors-cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and photo cyan and photo magenta. Highly rated by users of Canon’s W8200, a B0+ (44 inches wide) model launched in June 2003, Pg Inks achieve output with exceeding light resistance, water resistance and color stability while also achieving color performance and gradation to rival dye- based-ink systems.

The new W6200 is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed one-inch-wide high-density printhead, employing 7,680 tiny ink nozzles (1,280 for each color) to achieve high print speeds of up to 1.5 minutes per page when producing A1 size output. Also, while New “Microfine Droplet Technology” ensures the precise delivery of microscopic droplets of ink that are consistent in shape, size and density for detailed 1,200 x 1,200 dot-per-inch image resolution, one-sixth density photo cyan and photo magenta inks reduce graininess to yield smooth gradation and a rich tonal range.

The imagePROGRAF W6200 features New Canon Digital Photo Color, a proprietary image-processing technology that ensures the faithful reproduction of digital photo images, achieving color performance that matches human preference. The technology enables the production of beautiful, vivid images, particularly in the case of landscapes and people shots.

High-capacity ink cartridges for each color continuously monitor and record remaining ink levels, permitting users to manage ink usage and eliminate costly interruptions to large print jobs for greater efficiency and higher productivity. The W6200 also makes office networking simple with 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet ports, included as a standard feature.

Moreover, the new printer offers a range of options, including Graphic RIP LT50MW, a Postscript 3 compatible software RIP enabling the faithful reproduction of highly detailed graphic designs.

The Canon imagePROGRAF W6200 will go on sale in Japan on November 4 priced at JPY 298,000. Canon has set initial production at 10,000 units per year
