P1.5 million worth of fake toner cartridges were seized by National
Bureau of Investigation agents when they raided several branches of a
computer shop in Metro Manila last Wednesday.
NBI
Intellectual Property Rights Division chief Jose Yap said the raids
were prompted by a complaint from international company Hewlett Packard
(HP) which was represented by Bengzon, Negre & Untalan Intellectual
Property Attorneys.Yap said HP sought the bureau’s help in
investigating C-COMD Computer Printer Tech Corp. for allegedly selling
fake HP toner cartridges.Armed with search warrants issued by Manila
Regional Trial Court Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr., agents raided on
Wednesday morning C-COMD’s branches in Zapote Road, Las Pinas;
Kabihasnan, Parañaque City; and Sta. Cruz, Manila.They confiscated some
347 pieces of refilled and repackaged toner cartridges which were
allegedly being passed off as original HP products.
