    French workers sue HP
PARIS ” Some 323 employees at the ex-manufacturing site of Hewlett-Packard in l’Isle d’Abeau, near Grenoble (France), have decided to bring HP before the labor relations board for unfair dismissals, according to Agence France Presse. At the origin of the protest is the acquisition in the spring of 2002 of HP’s manufacturing site by California-based contract electronics manufacturer Sanmina-SCI. At that time, the site counted 500 employees.Suffering from competition from Eastern Europe and Asia, Sanmina said it was having a hard time obtaining new contracts and decided in 2005 to close its plant in l’Isle d’Abeau.A union delegate indicated that employees are suing HP and Sanmina because they should have kept their working contracts and advantages at the time of the acquisition. As this was not the case, each employee is now claiming 30.000 euros in damages. The trial will open on Oct. 22 in Vienne (France) and is likely to last for a couple days.
