Ink Jet and Lexmark Firmware Change Dominate World Expo
Following A trend that began several years ago, this year’s version of Recharger Magazine’s World Expo, held in Las Vegas, NV, September 17-19, was dominated by vendors of ink, ink jet refilling equipment, and compatible ink jet cartridges. A record 5,365 attendees visited the booths of 237 exhibitors crammed into every nook and cranny of the Riviera Hotel convention center. Approximately 33 percent of the attendees were from outside the United States, representing some 110 countries. In addition to filling the two main halls of the convention center, exhibitors also used some rooms that served as classrooms in previous years and a roped-off area near the main registration lobby.According to Phyllis Gurgevich, publisher of Recharger Magazine, the show has outgrown the Riviera venue and will be held in the Sands Convention Center next year. “We have contracted commitments from more than 226 companies reserving over 735 booth spaces for 2004, and the 2003 show just closed,” boasts Gurgevich, noting that more than 70 new companies have expressed interest in exhibiting next year. “In light of this exhibitor growth, the challenges that persist making information sharing ever more important, and the venue change, we anticipate Expo 2004 to reflect another leap forward,” says Gurgevich. The Sands also has more space available for classrooms, which Gurgevich says is much needed, as the number of classes and seminars has increased every year.
