Snow collapses part of roof at Clover facility

Heavy snow collapsed a small section of the roof early Friday morning at Clover Technologies Group, 420 Columbus St., Ottawa, causing little damage and no loss of production, according to a plant official.

Responding to an activated alarm, Ottawa firefighters were called to the building at 1:30 a.m. and found a water flow detector was activated. Responders found a portion of the roof collapsed from "a snow load" and broke through one of the building’s sprinkler lines.

The water was shut off and the fire units returned to service.
Later Friday morning, Clover Plant Manager Roger Kaufman told The Times heavy snow had pushed in a 10-foot portion of the roof over a walkway area that separates two departments."Damage was limited and very minor," Kaufman said. "Operations here in the building are up and running 100 percent." He added repairs have begun and will continue into next week.
