Samsung plans to double revenue with new printers
SAMSUNG Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd (SME) is planning to double its revenue from RM4 million to RM8 million through its new range of printers this year.

The new product line includes the Samsung ML-1610 which has a special feature that enables it to save up to 40 per cent of the toner with the push of a button, and the world’s first direct USB Memory Connectivity printer. More than 15 models of information technology printing and digital imaging solutions showcased at the Samsung Total Printing Solutions Roadshow are expected to be in the local market in May 2005. “Samsung is very serious about the printing business. We intend to be a significant player in this market segment just like we are with the LCD (liquid crystal display) and CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors,” said managing director Won Jung Duk.

The roadshow, which is in its third leg, is part of Samsung’s six-nation tour of Singapore, Thailand. Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.

According to the vice-president of the Samsung Solution Marketing Group’s printing division, Yoon Byoung Bai, Samsung is planning to change the current low end market trend from inkjet printers to laser printer as it is more cost effective. The 15 new printers are targeted at individuals, small office-home office players, small- and medium-sized businesses, and corporations. Won said Samsung expects to sell 30,000 units of the new printers this year
