Office Supplies Revenue Increases at the Expense of Hardware

Lyra forecasts that revenue from office supplies and media will increase significantly between 2003 and 2007, while revenue from office hardware will decline over this period. Lyra defines office supplies and media as plain paper, ink, and toner. Office hardware includes a variety of printers and digital copiers, including ink jet and laser single-function and multifunction devices.

There are many factors driving the increase in supplies revenue. One major driver is increased use of color, which is a result of an increase in workgroup color printer shipments. Other contributing factors include an increase in the sales and use of ink jet multifunction devices and some high-end digital copiers. Declines in hardware revenue can be attributed to price erosion and the maturation of several market segments, including personal laser printers and standard ink jet printers.

This information will be presented as part of a session called “Office Printing: Where is the Market Heading?” at the 2004 Lyra Imaging Symposium. This presentation focuses on the changing dynamics of the office printing market, evaluates the best growth opportunities, provides a snapshot of tomorrow’s market, and explores whether the office should remain a focus for vendors.

The Symposium will be held January 26-28, 2004, at Marriott’s Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, California. The agenda features two days of illuminating industry information and primary research results, helping attendees to critically examine how the industry will change over the next five years. An ideal venue to debate, discuss, network, and challenge conventional wisdom with the industry’s leading players, the 2004 Lyra Imaging Symposium provides attendees with an assessment of the industry today and a top-to-bottom analysis of what lies ahead. Register today for the industry’s premier event
