Town Of Webster Will Face Xerox In Court Over Property Tax

Webster, N.Y. – Xerox earned $5.5 billion in its first quarter this year.
According to some reports the company requested to reduce its assessed value on some of its properties by 75 percent. That includes its large facility on Philips Road in Webster.

Residents worry how that could trickle down to them with higher taxes or services.“We will have to pay it right? And we pay quite enough as it is,” Webster resident Barbara Klos said.

“Small companies like us, if we were to go to the tax assessors office, ask for a 75 percent reduction, we’d be laughed out of the office, it just would not happen,” said Brendan Hanna with Foley Agency Inc.

The move could take millions from local government.
Webster at one point was so strapped for cash, it considered cutting the number of police officers.“It will impact our business, it will impact every business in Webster,” Hanna said. “We would be shouldering the burden of a large corporation.”

It’s not happening yet for Xerox.
The town assessor tells 13WHAM news the company’s request was denied, citing no need for the change.

Xerox is still discussing the matter with the town, something some residents hope can be worked out.“You want to keep industry around here, you don’t want to drive them out, that’s for sure,” one resident said.

A Xerox spokesman tells 13WHAM news that they will let a judge rule on the assessments.plan to file papers with the state Supreme Court next week.
