Steady Ink Jet Aftermarket Growth in Western Europe
<>more than 80
million ink jet printers were installed in Western Europe during 2003.This
number is expected to increase to 98 million units by 2008, representing a
Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4.1%. Much of this market is now a
replacement market, with users replacing older printers with multifunctional
devices and purchasing photo printers.
The total ink jet cartridge market is expected to demonstrate a CAGR of 4.5%
over the forecast period, rising from 307.8 million units in 2003 to 383.6
million units in 2008. The Western European aftermarket share of the inkjet
cartridge market will experience a CAGR of 3.9% over the same period, expanding
from €943 million in 2003 to €1.13 billion in 2008.

Aftermarket ink jet cartridge revenues accounted for about 13% of the total
market in 2003. This share is lower than it is for units as the aftermarket
cartridges sell at lower prices than OEM cartridges. Additionally, ink jet
aftermarket cartridge prices are predicted to remain quite flat, as they need to
be pegged at a certain level below OEM prices to remain competitive.
