TONER SHORTAGE
Digital press manufacturer Xerox
has been hit by a worldwide toner delivery problem due to an increased
demand from customers. However, the company said that the problem is a
short-term one and would be overcome quickly.PrintWeek has been
contacted by a number of printers claiming they have been made to wait
up to 10 days for delivery of toner. One printer, who preferred to remain
nameless, said: “We will run out of black toner this afternoon. We have
a machine sat there that we can’t use and we are turning work away.”It
is understood that the problem has hit companies in the US and Asia, as
well as the UK, but only affects a “small number of products”, including
the Xerox 700.Kevin Perlmutter, European head of corporate
communications, said: “This is a result of increased demand. As well as
demanding more toner, customers are using more – a higher density of ink
and more colour on page.”It is our number one priority to effect a
short-term solution and we expect to have the problem sorted in the near
future. We have big supplies coming in all the time. In the future, we
aim to have the right amount of supply to satisfy demands.

unaffected by Xerox toner shortage
Australian
customers will not be impacted by a global Xerox toner shortage,
according to Fuji Xerox Australia.Printers in Europe, the US, and Asia
have reported delays in toner delivery, with some even turning away work
as a result of the shortage.Xerox has said that the shortage is the
result of an unexpected surge in demand, and only affects a “small
number of products”, particularly the 700 digital press (pictured). However,
Fuji Xerox Australia production services national manager Simon Lane
told ProPrint that the local organisation has been able to cope with an
increased demand for toner.”There has been minimal impact to Fuji
Xerox’s production customers in Australia,” he said. “We have a
sufficient supply of toner for the next 32-60 days which is in line with
normal stock holding and we are not foreseeing any issues with the
supply of toner.”In fact, as we enter the quieter holiday period, we
expect our toner stock levels to be in good supply,” he added.ProPrint’s
UK sister title PrintWeek has been contacted by a number of printers
claiming they have been made to wait up to 10 days for delivery of
toner. One printer, who preferred to remain nameless, said: “We will run
out of black toner this afternoon. We have a machine sitting there that
we can’t use and we are turning work away.”Kevin Perlmutter, Xerox’s
European head of corporate communications, said: “It is our number one
priority to affect a short-term solution and we expect to have the
problem sorted in the near future. We have big supplies coming in all
the time. In the future, we aim to have the right amount of supply to
satisfy demands.”
