U.S. companies are scrambling to connect with lobbyists as they seek ways to shield themselves from Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff policies. Trump, who made universal tariffs a cornerstone of his economic platform, proposed a blanket 20% tax on all imports and a steep 60% rate on goods from China.
A 2021 study revealed that during his first term, the Trump administration was more likely to grant tariff exemptions to companies whose lobbying firms had made political contributions to the Republican Party.
