People Over Age 60 Print More Digital Photos at Home
    One of Lyra’s
latest digital photography reports, Inside the Mind of the Digital
Photographer: A Complete Photo Behavior Profile by Gender, Age,
Education, and Income, looks at how survey respondents vary in their
photo-taking and photo-printing behavior by age. Respondents to the
survey were split into four age groups: under 30 years old, 30 to 44
years old, 45 to 59 years old, and 60 or more years old. We found
surprisingly few age-based differences in digital camera ownership
rates. More than 80 percent of respondents in all four age groups have
at least one digital camera in their households. All survey respondents
owned a PC, so digital camera ownership may be more a function of PC
    ownership than age.
The differences among the age groups were apparent when respondents
were asked what they do with captured images. While respondents in all
four age groups reported that they print most of their photos at home,
younger respondents were more likely than older respondents to print
photos at other locations, including retail stores, online photo
services, and at work. Respondents who were under age 30 said they
print approximately 40 percent of their photos at these alternate
locations, while respondents who were at least 60 years old reported
printing less than 10 percent of their photos outside the home
