More staff face axe at county firm
Up to 19 jobs are to go at a major Shropshire employer just months after 40 staff were made redundant. Epson Telford Ltd is blaming difficult market conditions expected in the coming months as a reason for the proposed job cuts.
The firm, which employs about 900 people, said market conditions had “continued to be severe” since it made about 40 people redundant in February.Ray Prior, a senior manager at the ink cartridge manufacturer, which is based at Hortonwood, said the operations support unit provided support services to the firm’s five business units and in order to continue with this in a cost effective manner they were having to consider carefully the effectiveness of every job and to rebuild the support structure. This restructuring had led to the company proposing a reduction of 19 jobs.Mr Prior said: “This action must be seen in the context of the group’s medium term recovery plan. After this difficult period it is expected that Epson’s business will continue to expand.”
