    Hurd named No.1 by BusinessWeek

    Hurd, the CEO credited with turning around the fortunes of the world’s
    largest technology company, has been voted 2007 Businessperson of the
    Year by readers of BusinessWeek.Hurd, 50, has reinvigorated
    Hewlett-Packard since he took over as chairman of the board in 2006.
    BusinessWeek praised the former head of NCR for showing “remarkable
    skill” in navigating the intensely competitive and complex computer
    business.“But what is even more remarkable has been his ability to
    position the world’s largest computer company for growth by selling
    high-tech gear to both consumers and corporations,” wrote the
    magazine’s Louise Lee.“Very few high-tech companies can manage the
    delicate balancing act required to execute flawlessly in both
    markets.”For the fiscal year ended 31 October, sales rose 13.7 percent,
    to $104.3 billion, and earnings jumped 17 percent, to $7.3 billion.
