STATE OF WINSCOSIN ORDERS XEROX TO PAY PROPERTY TAX
Wis. court won’t review tax ruling against Xerox
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Supreme Court is letting stand a lower court decision that Xerox Corp. must pay property taxes on some office equipment leased to customers.Xerox argued that stand-alone devices that can print, copy, fax and scan should be consideredcomputers and therefore exempted from property taxes under state law.

A state appeals court in July ruled the devices are not computers and therefore are taxable. The case involved property valued at $8.3 million for tax purposes in the cities of Milwaukee and La Crosse. Xerox was seeking a refund on $104,000 worth of taxes from the cities.Xerox appealed to the high court, but justices said last week they would not hear the case.Xerox is based in Norwalk, Conn.
