    Xerox announces 468 layoffs in Houston call center

    Xerox Corp. is cutting back its Houston staff as a result of a change in business conditions for one of their clients.

    The Norwalk, Connecticut-based business said in a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act letter filed with the Texas Workforce Commission on Aug. 1 that it is terminating 468 positions effective Sept. 30, 2014.

    Employees located at the Xerox Commercial Solutions, LLC, Sprint Customer Care SBU located at 3100 Hayes Road in Houston were informed of the decision on Aug. 1 that the company was closing the call center operations at the facility.

    “These reductions, while very difficult decisions, reflect the changing business requirements of a single client,” said Kevin Lightfoot, vice president of corporate communications for Xerox. “This was based on a client’s changing business requirements.”

    Lightfoot said Xerox will continue its presence in Houston.

    “The changing demands of Xerox’s clients produce cycles of hiring. We continue to hire new employees in many locations and will continue to hire in Houston to meet the needs of other clients,” he said.

    The company has approximately 850 employees in the Houston area and more than 7,000 throughout Texas.

    That number is down in Houston from a Xerox-reported 2,200 in 2012.

    Last year, Xerox laid off 81 employees at the HPI Insurance Call Center located at 9800 Center Parkway as part of an agreement with the company.

    Lightfoot confirmed separation packages will be provided to those who qualify and employees will be able to apply for other open positions in the company.
