2008 Xerox in Dundalk is making 50 workers redundant as part of what
the firm calls ‘global restructuring’.Dundalk’s biggest employer
announced it is seeking 50 voluntary redundancies at a meeting of its
336 staff at the Dublin Road plant on Friday afternoon. The company told
the Argus it would move to compulsory redundancies if there were not
enough volunteers but stressed the American office equipment giant
remains committed to Dundalk.
The jobs will be lost in the
worldwide production systems manufacturing section of the business and
the toner operation in Dundalk will not be affected.Management,
technical and support staff in the worldwide production department have
been asked to come forward for voluntary redundancy and it is expected
the jobs will be lost by the new year at the latest.
Xerox
refused to say what offer was on the table for staff, saying employees
‘will be engaged to discuss the impact of this in more detail’.The
Dundalk job losses are part of a $400 million worldwide review of the
company’s operations around the globe and come on the back of poor
third quarter results in October.
The company said: ‘These
reductions, while very difficult decisions, help us reduce our cost
base and drive operational improvements across the board.’Our
restructuring actions are designed to get our costs in line with the
rest of the business and provide flexibility to weather the challenges
of an uncertain economy’.
