oregon jan 09 ,Layoffs that Xerox Corp. announced last fall took effect
Thursday at the company’s Wilsonville plant.In October, the company
announced it would reduce its 57,000-employee global work force by
3,000 jobs, or roughly 5 percent, as part of a $400 million
restructuring plan.On Thursday, 50 people, or 3 percent, of the
company’s Wilsonville employees were let go. The cuts affected all
areas except sales and union manufacturing and included marketing,
finance, human resources, product development and engineering.“This
gives us the flexibility to respond to uncertain economic conditions,”
said company spokesman William McKee.
McKee called the
Wilsonville location, which makes office products, a “key site” for the
company.Shares of the Norwalk, Conn.-based company closed Thursday
down 1 percent to $7.82. They have a 52-week range between $4.83 and
$16.00.The company will return quarterly earnings next Friday, Jan. 23.
