HP OUT-SOURCES ANOTHER SINGAPORE LAB
Hewlett-Packard to open another Singapore lab
Hewlett-Packard Co. plans to open a facility in Singapore to
improve future models of web-enabled printers.According to reports in
two Singapore newspapers, Palo Alto-based HP will set up an
“Inkjet and Web Solutions Global Design Centre” in the city state at the
tip of the Malay Peninsula. This will be the first lab of this type
outside the United States.Last month, HP set up an outpost of its HP
Labs unit in Singapore, citing the city’s “business-friendly
attributes.”Vyomesh Joshi, the boss of HP’s imaging and printing unit,
got an award, the “Friend of Singapore,” from President Sellapan
Ramanathan this week.Joshi told the Straits Times and the Business Times
(both part of Singapore Press Holdings group) that the new center will
have about 50 workers. The company hasn’t chosen a site for it yet.The
HP Labs unit is in the Fusionopolis area of Singapore.
