Office Depot Inc. and OfficeMax Inc.from the Specialty Retail, Other industry.
The challenging environment persists for specialty retail stores such as Office Depot Inc. and OfficeMax Inc. The industry is closely tied to the overall economy and the job market, both of which remain sluggish. The slow pace of the recovery and the uncertainty which surrounds the macroeconomic has kept consumers and small businesses conscious of their spending and unwilling to invest in big ticket items.

Nevertheless, industry players appear focused on improving their offerings and securing consumers’ attentions. As summer approaches, Office Depot seems to be beefing up its audio and electronics line-up. The company recently introduced the new Toshiba Excite 10 tablet, with full SD card slot and built-in micro USB and HDMI ports, as well as the full line of Monster headphones including NCredible and iSport.

Meanwhile, OfficeMax is increasing its appeal to businesses that want to be more environmentally friendly with its new Boomerang Box(TM) program. The new delivery program reuses and recycles boxes and among participating businesses is anticipated to lower box use by up to 80 percent.
