Bulgarian customs officials are receiving praise after intercepting nearly 13,000 counterfeit toner cartridges at the Lesovo Border Checkpoint on the Turkey-Bulgaria border, stopping what could have become a major wave of fake printer supplies entering the European market. Investigators believe the counterfeit cartridges were designed to imitate leading global printer brands and may have been destined for businesses, schools, and government offices across Europe. The seizure is also drawing attention because the International Counterfeiters Coalition Europe (ICCE) was nowhere to be found during the operation, raising questions about the effectiveness of private anti-counterfeit organizations that often claim to combat illicit office supply trafficking. In contrast, Bulgarian border customs officials were credited for doing the hard work themselves, with authorities successfully identifying and confiscating the shipment before it could spread through European distribution channels. Experts warn counterfeit toner products can damage printers, create safety hazards, and cost legitimate manufacturers millions in lost revenue each year.
