    HP Cuts Energy Use of Products 50%
    HP released its 11th Global Citizenship Report (GCR) this week accounting for policies, programs, performance and goals .

    As of the end of the year, the company reduced the energy consumption of its products 50 percent compared with 2005 levels—exceeding a stated goal of 40 percent reduction.

    Other environmental sustainability highlights from the report include:

        HP reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from operations by 20 percent between 2005 and 2011, meeting the company goal two years early.

        In 2011, HP reached a milestone by recycling two billion pounds of electronic products and supplies since 1987. Earlier this year HP and Staples teamed up to offer free electronics recycling for all brands of office electronics at Staples stores nationwide.

        HP partnered with the Canada-based Lavergne Group to support a new HP plastic treatment facility in Vietnam, expanding the “closed loop” HP ink cartridge recycling program

        The company completed energy-efficiency initiatives at customer serving data centers that are projected to save approximately 13 million kilowatt hours on an annual basis—equal to an estimated 7,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.

        HP became a member of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®)—widely regarded as a leading independent standard for responsible forestry.
