Tokyo-Canon,Japan’s top office equipment and camera maker, said on Friday it would build a major plant at home to produce toner cartridges and ink tanks to meet rising demand for the supplies.
It will invest ¥80 billion (R4.9 billion) in the new plant scheduled to be completed in January 2007 in Oita, southern Japan and will employ about 1 100 people, Canon said in a statement.
The plant will be Canon’s first production base for both toner cartridges and ink tanks, a Canon spokesman said. “The size of investment is considerably large,” he said.
It will have a total floor area of 65 000 square metres and be located adjacent to a unit that produces products such as cameras
