UK : CURFEW FOR MAN WHO STOLE INK
CARTRIDGES
A man with a long record of dishonesty
has been given a curfew after admitting the theft of ink
cartridges.Malcolm Lormor, 48, launched Northern Recycling, which
collects used cartridges, and visited offices belonging to Birks
Sinclair, in Durham, on April 29, on the off-chance he could pick some
up.
But while there, he stole new cartridges worth £242
Durham
Crown Court heard how Lormor, of Eaglesdene, Hetton, had been cautioned
by Northumbria Police for a similar offence a month previously.Mark
Giuliani, prosecuting, said Lormor had been wearing a Parcelforce jacket
during the incident, which was recovered from his home, and was owned
by the thief, as he worked as a courier for them in the past.Bob Spragg,
mitigating, said it had been six years since Lormor’s last offence and
he had been “doing well” before the caution in March. He said Lormor was
on benefits, is suffering from depression, and is not able to carry out
unpaid work as part of any punishment.
Recorder Jonathan Carroll
read out a number of Lormor’s previous convictions, which date back to
1960 and include benefit fraud, obtaining property by deception and
breach of suspended sentences. He said Lormor had an “appalling record
for dishonesty”.Lormor was sentenced to a three-month curfew, which runs
from 8pm to 7am, and ordered to pay compensation.
