Canon
U.S.A. Enhances Its Award-Winning Line of Multifunction Devices with
the Introduction of the imageRUNNER 5070; New imageRUNNER Model
Delivers Advanced Multifunction, Network and Control Capabilities to
Mid- and Large-Sized Corporate Workgroups.LAKE SUCCESS, NY,
Dec. 1, 2005 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., the nation’s market share brand
leader in black-and-white and color copier solutions(i), today
introduced the imageRUNNER 5070 digital multifunction imaging system. This new multifunction device joins the award-winning imageRUNNER 6570
and imageRUNNER 5570 as the standard for document handling and
management for mid- to large-sized workgroups.Canon Innovation and Technology
Similar to its sister devices, the imageRUNNER 5070 has a rapid
output speed, robust document handling and finishing functionality,
and highly advanced communication capabilities. In addition, the model
leverages Canon innovation and technology, including the company’s
unique MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) and the
industry’s first-ever Web access function. These enhanced capabilities
allow the device to operate as an “information kiosk” to access and
print information directly from the Internet or corporate intranet.“Since their introduction earlier this year, the imageRUNNER 6570
and imageRUNNER 5570 devices have established a new benchmark for
document management and handling in Corporate America,” said Sam
Yoshida, director and general manager, Corporate Systems Division,
Canon U.S.A. “The new imageRUNNER 5070 joins those models to give
corporate customers an additional option to meet their demanding
document handling and management needs with unmatched system
performance and innovation.”Like the imageRUNNER 6570 and imageRUNNER 5570, which recently
received Buyers Lab’s Pick-of-the-Year Award, the new imageRUNNER 5070
incorporates a number of features and functions that clearly
distinguish it among the most advanced products within its category,
and empower users with the ability to capture, create, and communicate
critical information more efficiently and effectively. Some of the
features and functions include:Enhanced Feature Set
The imageRUNNER 5070 model features Canon’s third generation of
its imagePlatform architecture built around a custom processor with a
standard complement of 512MB RAM and a 20GB Hard Disk Drive. This
design raises the speed and efficiency of data processing, enabling
simultaneous multitask processing, and advanced document manipulation
and storage capabilities.Offering advanced digital Copy and Mail Box capabilities and
network (TWAIN) scanning as standard features, this new model can also
be outfitted with optional Super G3 Fax capabilities. In addition, the
imageRUNNER 5070 supports a host of advanced document distribution
capabilities via Canon’s Universal Send option. With Universal Send, documents can be scanned and “pushed” to
other destinations electronically – distributing information to
multiple destinations, including individual or groups of e-mail and
Internet-Fax addresses, Super G3 Fax destinations (optional), internal
Mail Boxes, network or host folders, and document management
applications such as Canon imageWARE software(ii). Newly-added
Universal Send capabilities also include a new URL Send feature, as
well as optional Encrypted PDF and Searchable PDF modes.Web Access Capability
The imageRUNNER 5070 is “Internet-ready,” providing tight
integration with Web-based information systems – thanks to the
industry’s first-ever Web Access function, which was first introduced
earlier this year with the imageRUNNER 6570 and imageRUNNER 5570.Canon’s Web Access option permits these new devices to double as
data-access terminals, allowing users to call up Internet or intranet
data on the color user-interface panel. This function supports
information retrieval from on-site locations without the need for a
PC, as well as the printing out of in-house administrative application
forms and documents.Meeting Device Access, Management and Security Demands
The imageRUNNER 5070 also offers a host of device access,
management and security features designed to ease administrative
burdens, control and monitor device usage, as well as protect vital
corporate information. Management features include Canon NetSpot Suite
and Remote UI utilities, as well as a new a Device Information
Delivery function. User authentication capabilities include Department
ID, Single Sign-on (SSO) and Simple Device Log-in (SDL) modes that
provide device access to authorized users. In addition to their
standard security enhancements, the models support an optional
imageRUNNER Security Kit that provides Hard Disk Drive Complete Erase,
Data Encryption, and to Job Log concealment features. The imageRUNNER 5070 system goes even further to provide device
access to disabled users. Users can operate system functions from a
laptop or desktop PC using the optional Remote Operator’s Software
Kit, which emulates the device control panel screens. In addition,
visually impaired users can receive audible job confirmation of Copy
functions through the optional Voice Guidance Kit.Improved Reliability, Durability, and
Document Handling Functionality
The imageRUNNER 5070 device delivers output speeds up to 50
pages-per-minute(iii) (ppm), with a quick 3.3 second first-copy-out
time (FCOT). This model also supports high-resolution output of up to
2,400 equivalent x 600 dpi(iv).This new model ships with a 100-sheet Duplexing Automatic Document
Feeder (DADF), standard automatic duplexing, and a paper capacity of
4,150 sheets that can be upgraded to support a maximum capacity of
7,650 sheets with optional accessories. The system also supports a
wide variety of media including labels, transparencies, tab paper, and
stocks up to 110lb. Index. Customers have a choice of two new
finishers that provide extensive stacking capabilities, multi-position
stapling, saddle-stitched booklet output, and optional hole punching. The imageRUNNER 5070 model leverages Canon’s Amorphous Silicon
(A-Si) Drum technology, which offers greater resilience to wear and
tear than conventional photosensitive drums for exceptional durability
and consistently high definition output. In addition, the system
employs Canon’s new IH (Induction Heating) fusing technology –
significantly reducing both warm-up time and overall energy
consumption. High-yield supplies and consumables help customers reduce
operating costs over millions of impressions.Price and Availability
The suggested retail price of the imageRUNNER 5070 is $15,500. The
device will be available later this month through authorized Canon
U.S.A. dealers and Canon Business Solution locations. -
