AUSTRALIA
Post congratulates its Bega customers who have recycled over 9,600
kilo’s of used printer cartridges during the past 12 months, through
the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ program.
The outstanding figure that
Bega customers have deposited in the cartridge recycling bins located
in their local Post Office, has greatly contributed to the overall
success of the program, which diverted over 700 tonnes from landfill in
the last year alone.During the past year, Australia Post outlets across
the country collected an amazing 115.9 tonnes of used printer, fax and
copier cartridges in the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ recycling bins
located in stores.Australia Post spokesperson, Sheridan Beattie, said
that whilst these results are exceptional, we should all continue to
make every effort to recycle our used cartridges, to give the
environment a helping hand.”Used printer cartridges have a huge impact
on the environment.”The plastics and metals that they are made out of
don’t break down and toner dust can contain chemicals that are
potentially hazardous to the environment, as they can leach from
landfill into waterways and ground water.”Bega’s result is outstanding
and indicates the strong desire people have to help the environment
whenever they can.
