Canon malaysia loads security features into printers
Canon
Malaysia’s four new imageRunner colour multifunction printers (MFPs)
ship with variety of security features to protect an organisation’s
sensitive documents from unauthorised users.
The
ImageRunner 3380i, 4580i, 5180 and 5180i feature the WebDAV (Web-based
Distributed Authoring and Versioning) security option that manages
basic directory service listing, publishing directories and server
authentication. Via WebDAV, users can upload files onto an Internet
server for online sharing purposes. However, these files are protected
by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol, thus only approved users can
access them. Users can also protect their documents with the Encrypted
PDF feature, and secure these with a password to restrict access,
editing, and printing. They can also embed watermarks that appear when
copies are made. In addition to user-level authentication, there are
also security options to restrict access by network port or IP/MAC
address. Canon’s MFPs can print, copy, scan, fax and archive. They
also offer cost-saving features to help corporations save money when
printing in colour. The built-in ACS (Automatic Colour Sensing)
technology, for instance, intelligently detects when colour is present
on a page and then prints accordingly. Additionally, it can be made so
that only authorised personnel or departments are allowed to print in
colour. The higher-end 1,200dpi resolution 5180 and 5180i (a network
version) offer a print speed of up to 51 pages per minute (ppm) for
both colour and monochrome documents. Pricing starts from RM48,299 and
RM55,799 respectively. The 4580i, capable of 40ppm in colour and 45ppm
in monochrome, is priced from RM50,899, while the lower-end 3380i is
RM39,299 and above.
