THIEVES TAKE $20K
WORTH OF INK CARTRIDGES FROM WAL-MART !
A Wal-Mart
in League City was robbed of $20,000 worth of printer ink cartridges,
according to a news report on Ultimate Clear Lake. League City police
are currently looking for the suspects. The theft was carried out by two
women and another accomplice on March 3rd, but it was only discovered on
Thursday after the store’s security officers reviewed surveillance
tape. According to League City Police Sgt. John Jordan, two women were
seen entering the store and picking out a large green plastic storage
bin from the house ware department and loading it into a shopping cart.
There
is nothing quite unusual about that, except that when the women got to
the electronics department, they started loading printer ink cartridges
into the bin. The “selection process” employed by the women on the
cartridges were very unusual; those of us who are “seasoned” cartridge
purchasers, so to speak, will most likely go for a specific brand and
kind of cartridge, because you can’t just randomly pick out a cartridge
and hope that it will work on the machine you have at home.At any rate,
these women were described as “just pulling every single one of them off
the rack,” as recounted by Jordan.
They then made full use of
the convenience of Wal-Mart and its one-stop shopping experience by
making their way to the hardware department to pick up a can of
insulating foam. They made their getaway through a fire exit in the lawn
and garden department, but not before they had sprayed the speakers of
an ant-theft alarm system to muffle the sound that it will make when it
is set off after they opened the door. The women left the bin near the
door, and it was picked up by a man in a dark green Ford Expedition. All
told, 122 ink cartridges were stolen, ranging in value from $13 to $492
each.
