OUTSOURCED TO SINGAPORE , HP OPENS 1st DESIGN CENTER OUTSIDE OF U.S.
The
Palo Alto company today opened the Singapore Design Center, its first
such facility to be set up outside of the US. This will serve as an
Asian hub for the company’s regional design activities, and collaborate
with the US office and design teams in China and India by sharing
project details and research findings. One reason HP chose Singapore to
host its Design Center is the country’s strategic location in Asia
Pacific. The company feels that this region is important and hence wants
to be at the center of the action.
The office has a
multinational crew from the US, Korea, Pakistan and, of course,
Singapore. The employees are mainly industrial designers tasked to make
HP’s printers easier for consumers to use in terms of user interface,
functionality, as well as aesthetics. Some of the company’s printers,
such as the e-Print-enabled Envy 100 AIO, Officejet 8500A, 7500A, 6500A
and other Designjet and Photosmart machines, were designed in Singapore.
The opening of the Design Center will see more HP products conceived
and designed in the city-state.
