Man Leads Police on Foot Chase After Taking Ink Cartridges from Office Max

Police said after a man took merchandise from Office Max, he took off running and was caught by Chicago Police officers. Evergreen Park Police said a man who had taken merchandise from Office Max took off running outside after the store door sensor was set off.

According to reports, on Jan. 2, Antonio Phipps, 20, of Sycamore, Ill., took two items from Office Max, 2660 W 95th St., valued at $75.98.

Police said when Phipps ran through the Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers parking lot at about 2:22 p.m., he was being chased by an Office Max employee and a security guard. When police saw Phipps running west on California Avenue, Phipps started throwing items, according to reports. Chicago Police eventually caught Phipps at 95th Street and Mozart Avenue, reports said.

The Office Max manager positively identified Phipps as the offender, police said. According to reports, Phipps took ink cartridges out of the boxes and tried to run out of the store with them in his hands.

Police report information is provided by the Evergreen Park Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
