Clover Asks for More Time in Lawsuit Vs Canon Corp

Clover’s rapid growth, however, has had a downside. The aftermarket supplies giant’s booming business in selling toner cartridges for Canon-manufactured laser engines, which are used in HP LaserJets, has attracted some unwanted scrutiny. Clover made headlines in January when it, along with dozens of other companies, was named in Canon’s patent-infringement complaints before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in district court.

Recently, Clover asked the ITC for a 10-day extension in responding to Canon’s complaint. Clover currently has until March 13 to respond, but it has requested a delay until March 23. In addition to needing more time to “investigate and verify the factual issues raised in the Complaint,” Clover says that an extension until March 23, which is the due date for Clover Vietnam’s and Dataproducts Imaging Solutions S.A.’s response, will allow for one unified response date for both Clover and the foreign Clover respondents.

The motion for an extension also reveals that the legal team for Clover Holdings, Clover Technologies, Clover Vietnam, Dataproducts USA, and Dataproducts Imaging Solutions S.A. will be representing Cartridges Are Us (also owned by Clover), Dexxon Digital Storage, Discount Office Items, Deal Express LLC, GreenLine Paper Company, Myriad Greeyn, Office World, and OfficeWorld.com. We are eager to see how the biggest company named in Canon’s complaint responds to Canon’s accusations in a few weeks.
