The printer supplies market remains volatile as supply chain issues continue to plague OEM manufacturers and volumes declined in the third quarter, market analysts at IDC said.

In the Western European market for printer consumables, sales figures fell by 6.7 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous year. In the same period, sales increased by 7.2 percent to 1.935 billion dollars, the company IDC announced in London. Supply chain issues continue to affect the market and are unlikely to be fully resolved by 2023, according to analysts. Some brands are struggling to meet consumer and business demand, while others may take advantage of this situation and see an increase in their shipments.

According to the information, several trends are continuing: double-digit declines in the inkjet market and at the same time double-digit growth rates in the laser segment and in consumables for color printers. HP remains the clear market leader, but is losing market share, while the competitors Canon, Epson and Brother are making gains from the second to the third quarter. In Germany, overall shipments fell 7.2 percent, according to IDC, with inkjet printers being the hardest hit, down 13.4 percent, but offset by a 4.4 percent increase in laser shipments.
